Print formats and options

The Department’s Print Room offers a wide range of printing formats and options.

Mono printing

Situated in the Print Room are two larger Xerox laser photocopiers that are operated by the Print Room staff. These machines are capable of a large range of printing requirements. All can produce A4 and A3 single- and double-sided copies, and can staple in portrait or landscape form on the left-hand side of the printed sheet. A4 or A5 folded booklets with dual staples with covers can also be produced.

Colour printing

The Print Room has a colour copier that has many functions, including stapling and booklet making in A4 and A3 sizes.

Large-scale printing / poster printing

The Print Room has a large scale printer that can print posters. A2, A1 and A0 sizes are catered for. The largest printout available is 917mm x 3200mm.

Binding

Stapling

All the copiers are able to staple.

Slide Binders

Slide binders are the simplest type of binding. They consist of a plastic clip that slides along the long side of a number of A4 sheets keeping them together. Such binders come in sizes to suit documents of various thicknesses. Those kept in stock span the range from 5mm to 12mm.

Plastic comb binding

Binding with a plastic comb gives the advantage of the book being able to open flat without damaging the spine. This binding is available in A4 and in various thicknesses from 8mm to 51mm.

Soft binding

This produces an attractive looking binding that is ideal for technical reports. Acetate sheets can be added if required.

Laminating

This service is available in the following formats:

  • A5 Plain
  • A4 Plain
  • A3 Plain
  • A2 Plain
  • A1 Plain
  • A0 Plain

Finishing Processes

Drilling: The Print Room is able to drill paper with two or four holes to fit ring binders.
Guillotining: Up to A3 size can be cut on the guillotine.

Business cards

With the aid of the colour copier, it is possible to produce business cards on a thick 270gsm card. All we require is that the original is prepared as camera-ready copy using the University’s business card template, and either delivered to us on a memory stick or sent by e-mail to print-room@eng.cam.ac.uk.

Scanning

The photocopiers in the Print Room have the facility to scan back content for the purpose of saving jobs as both pdf or jpeg files. These can then be saved on CDs as colour or mono files.
