This notice concerns arrangements for the migration of home directories from the existing server file-serv
to the new fileserver cued-fs
.
Overview
As part of the process of migration of home directories, a certain amount of restructuring will be taking place. Each user will be given a folder to which their quota will apply and in this will initially be three subfolders:
-
ts-home
This will be the home directory for logins to gate and to the linux systems in the DPO and EIETL. This will contain all the data in the current home directory on fileserv (with a couple of minor exceptions) and is basically a replacement for it.
On windows systems in the DPO and EIETL, this will appear as a network mapped
drive (Y:) -
windows-home
On windows systems in the DPO and EIETL this will be where files saved to the Desktop, Download and Documents folders will be stored. It will also appear as a network mapped drive (Z:)
-
web-home
This will be where private web homepages live, directly replacing the public_html sub-directory on the old fileserver. On the linux systems the data in the existing directory will be copied and replaced with a symlink. On DPO/EIETL windows systems it will appear as a network mapped drive (W:)
Other windows machines
Windows machines which map network drives for home directory shares will need to remap them when that user home directory is migrated. Users will be notified when this is close to happening. The directory to map will be one of:
\\cued-fs\users\admin\CRSID \\cued-fs\users\diva\CRSID \\cued-fs\users\divb\CRSID \\cued-fs\users\divc\CRSID \\cued-fs\users\divd\CRSID \\cued-fs\users\dive\CRSID \\cued-fs\users\divf\CRSID \\cued-fs\users\divs\CRSID \\cued-fs\users\general\CRSID
where CRSID is replaced with your username.
Windows machines which are joined into the AD domain will behave like DPO/EIETL machines with respect to network drives and Desktop, Download and Documents folders. This only applies to a handful of machines at present.
Windows Roaming Profile
Most users will never need to access this directly. Mostly it contains windows application preferences and settings since the bulk of the data which used to end up in it is that which will now be in the Desktop, Download and Documents folders. Previously this lived in the .ntprofile subdirectory, but will be moved to a separate area dedicated to just profiles.
