Wonderful as the internet is, there are an increasing number of bad people who are trying to steal information from or about us. They’re getting ever more ingenious and some staff and students have been caught by their devious trickery.
We recently invited Kieren Lovell from University Information Services to give an introductory talk on IT Security Awareness to the termly Administrators and Technicians meetings. The presentation given to the Technicians was videoed so that it could be made available to others and it is now available on the streaming media service. A copy of the accompanying slides is also available.
Kieren is also available to give more in depth security awareness training focusing on issues which may affect particular groups, e.g. those who travel regularly to “unsafe” areas, those handling financial transactions etc. Kieren’s contact details are in the slides, but if you are interested in more detailed training please also let us know so that we can coordinate requests.
If you have any specific concerns about IT Security within the Department please contact the Helpdesk in the first instance. One thing Kieren emphasizes is that if you think you have fallen into a security trap is that it is important to let IT support know as soon as possible, so that damage can be minimized.
