The current New User Guide is my quick attempt to update the new user guide. The new version of CentOS has changed the colour and location of things even if the things themselves haven’t changed much, so I’ve had to change quite a lot. Here are some observations –
There are facilities shown to users that may not be useful to them (or us) – e.g.
- “Connect to Server” (on the File Viewer side-bar)
- “Evolution” (in the dash (aka, “the Dock”, “Favorites”))
There’s no “create new (empty) file” option or window minimization by default.
The CentOS “Help” facility is useful as far as it goes (by the way, the Super key is the key with the Window logo on it). The “CUED Help” facility is more buried than ever.
That users can’t install on the system means that we might need to install more things on their behalf. e.g. The Brasero movie editor needs system plug-ins to load in the movie files that I’ve tried it with.
When I logged in I kept getting an “Unlock login Keyring” panel. So did John Sloan. We might be special cases. The fix is to remove ~/.gnome2/keyrings
The menus under the “Applications” button don’t contain all the apps. Even the “Activities Overview/Show Applications/All” fails to show programs like evince, etc.
