After a helpful visit from Craig Stonall of Extron (and some prompt network lashing by Adam and Paul), I’ve been moving forward with the design and programming of the control system for LR4. Feel free to pop in to IE1-35 if your interested at taking a look…
The process is split into 2 parts, with the page designs firstly generated in a graphics based package called GUI Designer. Although it allows one to work from templates, I am exploring the building of a custom set of pages that will fit better with current user practice.
The second part involves importing these pages into Global Configurator where buttons are assigned various functions and macros of control commands for the AV equipment in the space, in this case 2 NEC projectors, an Extron scaler and and Extron switching matrix. Most of this will take place using RS232 protocol, but much of the equipment will accept the same control via IP which gives plenty options in terms of the longer strategy.
